In this show, we reflect upon John Batman – the Australian-born founder of Melbourne and examine more closely the treaty that he made with some local aborigines when negotiating the ownership of land for the Port Phillip settlement. We bask in the wealth which gold provided in the early years of Victoria – especially in the cities of Ballarat, Bendigo and Melbourne.

In a musical theme, we talk about the song ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’, its origins and its role now in gay subculture, its symbol of dreams and wishes; and the place of the singer Judy Garland.

We chat about Markus Feehily – out loud and proud – but hidden within the boy-band Westlife. Musician and lyricist Cole Porter was well known as being actively gay – but that didn’t seem to affect his public reputation as a prolific writer of popular songs in the 1930-60s in the US.

And we are reminded about Bonnie Tyler – a pop singer from Wales in the 1970-90s; best recognised by for her husky voice.

Plus some trivia and mirth and much more ….
