New Shows – Programming

New Shows – Programming

Firstly I want to just thank everyone for a mammoth Radiothon effort – since the last newsletter Radiothon has been and gone and the fact that we got over $300 k – the biggest fundraiser in JOY’s history is mind boggling. The on air push was probably the most sustained it has been, this was needed to remind people of the role JOY plays in the community and it paid off. Thanks to the on air team for their effort it was amazing and the dedicated was real.

Moving away from Radiothon we have a new Grid coming up on the 7 th of August and I can say I am truly excited about some of the shows that we will now be offering. Really honing in on offering quality queer content and reaching out to a younger audience through fresh new youth driven shows.

Jam Sessions on Tuesday nights from 10 – 11 pm, is a new live music show that features LGBTIQ artists, hosted by two young fresh ladies who have strong back grounds in both radio and music production.

Not my cup of tea – Thursdays 10 – 11 pm, is a existing and very popular podcast that is being adapted for JOY, spear headed by YouTuber and social media personality Mitchell Coombs. This show will be recorded in Sydney, at the studios of the Australian Film Television and Radio School. Mitch will be joined by his BFF’s and AFTRS classmates Talecia and Aishlin. As they pull apart society from a young queer perspective.

Another show coming from Sydney is another social media personality, Troy Murphy with the Andrew and Troy show – they will pick up the Thursday midnight slot.

The source, Saturdays 6 – 7 pm, hosted By John Wintle – where he looks at the roots of some of music’s most memorable and sampled tunes.

Geeks OUT, Saturdays at 4 pm –  hosted by Michael and Clayton and weekly special guests, they look at Geek culture and technology.

Sunday fusion, Sundays 7 – 9 am, a new light talk and easy listening way to start your Sunday mornings. Hosted By Jeff and Tim Peppard. This will now be followed by a two hour musical journey with Katie Purvis, as she hosts Miss Chatelaine from 9 – 11.

More music Mondays, Monday 4 pm – 6:30 pm. Hosted by the effervescent Ben Hull – this is a drive show with a difference. We kick off the week with a bang, playing more music and introducing new music into the fold, giving the audience the opportunity to toot or boot tracks.

And in really exciting news – our Queer Feminism and women’s health show, 21st Century Women, Mondays 9 – 10 Pm – Is back it is revamped with new hosts and a fresh new perspective. 21st Century Women will be hosted by Lindsey, Greta and Hannah.

Finally we need to say goodbye to a few shows who have decided to hang up their hats after many years of great quality and dedication.

GPS – Sundays 7 – 9 am, Gordon and Sangeetha will still be around the station doing their thing, they just won’t be getting up so early on Sundays anymore, enjoy the sleep in guys.

The iconic C + C drive Factory, which after 7 years on air are moving on to spend more time with family and friends.

One of our most downloaded shows – PopChops, but we will be seeing the fellas around i am sure. They have already began doing PopChops listening parties and DJing – so its great to see people doing well after their exposure on JOY.

And although it has been a couple of months, after loosing Pete to Noosa, Cravings has also hung up its hat.

Although its always sad to see shows, especially long running shows, move on, its good to remember that change and evolution is just a part of life, JOY won’t be changing its mission or direction. We will still be bringing you quality content from an LGBTIQ perspective. In fact after the mandate we have been given after our latest Radiothon we will be driving this home even more strongly.
