Aussie expat Sia explodes out of the gate with the first single from a forthcoming seventh studio album to kick off new music this week. ‘Alive’ was co-written by Adele and initially was to be recorded by Adele. This is a power pop track worthy only of voices such as Sia or Adele – we’re happy either way.

Peter Wilson, the Melbourne out-and-proud independent singer-songwriter with a penchant for the 80s, brings us his second single from Utopia. ‘For the Very First Time’ is co-written and produced by Pete Hammond and is pure Stock, Aitken and Waterman homage.

British drum-and-bass quartet Rudimental have teamed up with multi-million-album-selling crooner Ed Sheeran and created a house-style delight in ‘Lay It All On Me’.

Byron St. John and John Pants are stalwarts of the independent Melbourne queer-music scene, with involvement in The Blow Waves, VideoVideo and more. The boys’ latest incarnation, Der Kreis, is described as delving into the underbelly of surf goth / dark wave pop with an electronic and punk sensibility. We just really like their second single, ‘The Beach’, and think you will too.

Another Aussie expat, originally from Brisbane, Conrad Sewell, is following up his #1 single, ‘Start Again’. ‘Who You Lovin’ is closer in style to his top 40 hit ‘Hold Me Up’, and is a great fit for JOY.

Conrad’s sister Grace had a huge hit earlier this year with her rework of ‘You Don’t Own Me’. Grace also hits our airwaves, with an original she wrote a couple of years ago at age 16. ‘Boyfriend Jeans’ is an uplifting pop ballad that we think you will enjoy.

UK girl group Little Mix are about to release their third studio album, and the second single, ‘Love Me Like You’, is very early Supremes-esque.

British electronic trio Faithless are celebrating 20 years since ‘Insomnia’ smashed the charts worldwide by curating a 2-album, 28-track package of all their own hits remixed by contemporary producers. Swedish producer Avicii has accepted the challenge on the biggest one of all, and ‘Insomnia 2.0’ is the result.

Set your alarm and tune into Rochén and Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
