Swedish singer-songwriter Zara Larsson kicks off our new music this week. The remix by British electronic duo Gorgon City for her latest single, ‘I Would Like’, gives the original a subtle kick and makes it a perfect weekday JOY addition.

LA-based duo Frenship have had only three releases since forming in 2013, but their latest single, ‘Capsize’, featuring American singer-songwriter Emily Warren has been a slow burn since its original release in August. After some late support on radio, it’s now sitting at #17 on the ARIA charts, so we’ve revisited it for a late-in-the-year addition for you.

American former Disney child actor Hayley Kiyoko has become a genuine role model for same-sex-attracted young girls everywhere, in a recent interview she was very clear about her song lyrics, appropriate pronouns and her comfort level with her sexuality. It doesn’t hurt that her songs and her debut EP, Citrine, are all excellent. ‘Ease My Mind’ is the second song we’ve lifted from the EP for your listening delight.

American out-and-proud singer-songwriter Chris Willis has enjoyed many years of success working with dance producers around the world, most notably producing multiple hits with French DJ David Guetta. He has teamed up with another French producer, Joachim Garraud, to write and record (in one take) a big ballad straight from the heart. ‘Message to the World’ also lends itself perfectly for a dance rework, and Chris is more than happy with what the VinylJackers have done with his song. This version is now getting a worldwide release.

This week sees the debut solo single for One Direction member Louis Tomlinson. He’s teamed up with American producer Steve Aoki for ‘Just Hold On’. Simultaneously, former band member Zayn has teamed up with pop music megastar Taylor Swift for ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’, lifted from the new Fifty Shades Darker original soundtrack. All the indications are that we’ll have a battle for positions #1 and #2 between the former bandmates on the sales charts around the world. Luckily, we think you’ll enjoy hearing both songs.

Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
