Kicking off our new music this week is NZ expat, Melbourne-based DJ-producer Jolyon Petch – a bit of a regular on our playlist recently – teaming up with Perth-based DJ-producer Mind Electric (who first featured on JOY with ‘Dirty Cash’ way back in 2006) and New Zealand singer-songwriter-producer Kingdon Te Itinga Chapple-Wilson (aka Kings) for his latest single, ‘Only You’.

Melbourne-based DJ-producer Andy Murphy recently teamed up with the aforementioned Jolyon Petch for their ARIA Club #1, ‘You Can Call Me Al’. Andy’s following up with another quality house gem with his latest single, ‘Right Here’.

Brisbane-based production duo Odd Mob have been getting some great results on the club charts over the past 18 months. Their latest single, ‘Feel So Good’, successfully bridges the gap to pop radio.

Melbourne-based independent pop-rock trio Capital Avenue are very new to recording and production, having only formed this year. However, their debut single, ‘Just Another Love Song’, from their debut EP, Capital Ave, is a very good first-time effort and we think you’ll love it.

Melbourne-based production trio The Engagement featured on our playlist last year with their debut single, ‘Closer’, featuring Valence. Originally released in late 2016, their latest single ‘Unbroken’ has had a 2017 tropical house makeover by Netherlands-based producer Crossfade, and it’s an excellent update.

Sydney-based disco-funk duo Midnight Pool Party, fronted by out-and-proud lead singer Darren Morilla, have released ‘This Love’, an excellent fourth and final single from their Dalliance EP.

We welcome to our playlist for the first time Melbourne-based independent out-and-proud singer-songwriter Stef Xeno, with his take on 80s-inspired synth-pop. His single, ‘Don’t Wanna Be Crazy’, could have been lifted straight out of the Stock, Aitken and Waterman songbook.

British DJ-producer Jonas Blue returns with his fourth single, this time using the vocals of an up-and-coming Australian singer-songwriter called William Singe. If ‘Mama’ follows the successful path of previous Jonas Blue releases, then this should launch Singe onto the world stage.

American singer-songwriter-producer Ryan Tedder recently opened up about his total collapse from mental exhaustion after ten years of writing, recording and continual touring with One Republic. He took a break and has said he and the band will no longer record albums, but rather will release a single whenever one takes shape and happens organically. Well, if the band’s latest single, ‘No Vacancy’, is any indication of what can be produced this way ,then we’re certainly on board with Ryan’s new strategy.

The UK music-buying public are loving the reunion and comeback of the iconic dance-pop group Steps. With a fully independent release budget, the first single from Tears on the Dancefloor, ‘Scared of the Dark’, managed a respectable top 40 position (#34) on the UK charts and the album then reached #2 in its debut week (only being kept out of top spot by Ed Sheeran). We’re a little sad but also really proud to be the only Australian radio station on board for these long-time favourites, so of course you’ll be hearing the second single off the album. ‘Story of a Heart’ was written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus no less – yes, the guys from ABBA – and it’s the most ABBA-esque you’ll have heard Steps sound like ever! Oh, and to top it off we’ll be spinning both the regular and 7th Heaven remix version of this song at different times of the day for you.

Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
