Welcome to Neon Nights!

This week we have a Synthpop Special, with some selected goodies plucked from the heart of the 80’s and beyond.

I also interview Anni Hogan, who co-founded the MITRA – Music For Nepal compilation.

Anni Hogan is a legendary UK DJ, who worked with Marc Almond for 10 years as MD, in addition to rubbing shoulders with the virtual godfather and godmothers of modern UK music (Nick Cave, Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Siouxsie and the Banshees…I could go on!).

‘MITRA Music for Nepal‘ album is a project co-founded by musician Anni Hogan and climber Cathy O’Dowd with an aim to release an album of alternative music, with all funds raised going to a reconstruction project in Nepal, to aid in the recovery from the earthquake of 25 April 2015. ‘Mitra’ means ‘friend’ in Nepali and so the ‘MITRA Music for Nepal’ project began, with our mantra #friendshelpingfriends!

The 75 track (!!) album includes tracks by Nick Cave, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Parralox, Shakespeare’s Sister, Billie Ray Martin, Bright Light Bright Light, Wolfgang Flur (ex Kraftwerk), Laurie Spiegel and many more.

The podcast (at the bottom of the page) contains the entire, unedited interview in which Anni goes into great detail about her early days as a DJ in UK, and all the amazing musical legends she got to befriend. She also goes into greater detail about the MITRA – Music For Nepal album and the contributors, such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Matt Johnson and Nick Cave.
