Sonja The Squeamer spoke to Mattie Do, the very first female director from Lao, Do … ‘is the first female director of a Lao feature film. Her directorial debut Chanthaly is the first horror film written and directed entirely in Laos, as well as the first to be screened at major film festivals outside of Southeast Asia. Chanthaly succeeds as a ghost story that refuses to conform to the rules of neighbouring industries in Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan or anywhere else.
