We hear a lot of debate about the inclusion of LGBTI individuals in Australian society, particularly through current discussions in the media around the Safe Schools program, but does this cover the needs of all LGBTI individuals?

Currently there are 90 countries that coming out can lead to prosecution and approximately 1.2 refugees or people who are displaced around the world that are LGBT and are seeking asylum. Only 2-3 per cent of those actually feel safe in their arrival country.

Australia identifies this group as having special needs but what policies have been put in place to help support LGBTI individuals who have migrated? How might their needs be different?

We speak to Anthony, a social worker who works with people who are effected by migration, about how coming out and being open about your sexuality adds complexity to migration – especially after arriving in a new country of residence, and Ayu, a young lesbian woman who has migrated to Australia from Indonesia.

We also catch up with Shannon Power from Star Observer with the latest news and talk about her latest op-ed on racism within the LGBTI community in Australia.
