Let’s talk about STI testing for women, trans people and regionally : 13 September 2017

It’s STI testing week in Victoria, a week about focusing on educating not only about STIs and blood borne viruses but also about the services that are available in your local communities.

The reality is that for men who have sex with men, the information and support is catered towards that community in a greater way when it comes to STI testing and information.

So for this episode of The Informer, we are focusing on STI testing and information from the parts of the community who don’t get the lion’s share of this information and the support, as we look at women’s, trans and regional STI testing and information around Australia.

We start  at Equinox in Victoria and speak to its Program Manager  Peter Locke about testing for the Trans Community.

We then speak to Kathleen McNamee from Family Planning Victoria about the barriers women can face and what we are doing to bridge this divide to provide greater support and information for all.

As well as speak to Teddy Cook, the Regional Outreach Development Manager of ACON about what it was like talking about STIs and testing at the Broken Heel Festival in Broken Hill over the weekend,  opening our eyes to what it is really like  across regional Australia.

Finally Dean and Dan ask each other when there last STI check was….. have you had one lately? There’s no shame or stigma in being more aware about your body, your sexual practises and how to protect yourself from STI and blood borne diseases.

Dean and Dan were your hosts for this episode of The Informer
