Playlists

Show 317

Doctor on the Radio by Q-Feel. Their 1981 debut single. Q-Feel was a British new wave outfit from the early 80s.  They released just 1 studio album and a handful of singles…their only real chart success was Dancing in Heaven.

Glad to be Gay by The Tom Robinson Band. 1978 request.

Conversation Peace by Stevie Wonder. 1995 request.

Heart and Lung by Sean Lennon. 1999 so don’t play again. Request for Peter.

+In the Navy by The Village People. 1979 hit from Go West.

Everlasting Love by Sandra. Request. 1987

+Caminho by Nau. They are on my LGBTI list for their lesbian lead singer, Vange Leonel, who formed the band in Sao Paulo in the 1980s.They put out just a single album, in 1987, and this wasn’t on it – so it must be a single or EP release.

Scandalous by Prince. 1989 request.

+Too Much Time on My Hands by Styx. 1981 single from Paradise Theatre, their 10th album, also from 1981. Drummer Chuck Panozzo is the gay member.

Shadows of the Night by Rachel Sweet.  Originally recorded by its songwriter, D.L. Byron, Rachel recorded this a year before Pat Benatar had a big hit with it. Released on the 1981 album, “And Then He Kissed Me”.  The Pat version is better…though there’s something about this that I like.

Aussies from 1982

*Public Execution by SS Brigade. 1982 track from this Brisbane punk band, new to me tonight.

*Fuck Art, Let’s Dance by 5:15. 1982 indie track, also new to me. I found the name of the song and band by following a link from information about SS Brigade so I think they might also be from Brissy, but can’t be certain. Anybody???

*Spy of Love by INXS. Filler track by Tim Farriss and Michael Hutchence on their huge 1982 album, Shabooh Shoobah.

*Mysterious Thing by Icehouse. From their 1982 album, Primitive Man.

*Hamlet (pow, pow, pow) by The Birthday Party. From their 1982 album, Junkyard, recorded in London.

*Swampland by The Scientists. 1982 indie release from this Perth-based punk band, led by Kim Salmon.

Our Song by Yes. Their follow up single after Owner of a Lonely Heart, and from the same album, 90125.  I must admit I had no idea these guys had been around since the 60s and put out their most recent album in 2011!  The only thing I know is Lonely Heart…

Fire by the Pointer Sisters.  1978 hit off their album Energy – written by Bruce Springsteen.  June Pointer, the youngest sister, died in 2006 after a stroke and cancer of the breast, liver, bones and colon.

Screaming Jets by Johnny Warman.  Though you’ve never heard of him, Johnny had some big-name friends helping him out, with Peter Gabriel providing background vocals on this track, which was released on Elton John’s Rocket Records. He’s English and this is his best known track from his best known album, Walking into Mirrors.

Lambada by Kaoma. They are a French-Brazilian group still working in Paris and this was their biggest hit.  Released in 1989.

A Wish Away by The Wonder Stuff.  The band’s 4th single, released in 1988. It was also on their debut album, The 8 Legged Groove Machine, also from 1988. Wonder Stuff were British, formed in 1986 and featured Miles Hunt, nephew of ELO keyboardist Bill Hunt.

Till Midnight by Evelyn “Champagne” King. From the Action Anthology, a compilation of track from 1977-86.

Your Wildest Dream by The Moody Blues. From 1986’s Journey Thru Time.
