Playlists

Show 322

Walkaway by Cast. 1995 indie rock release. The single version has a string section while the album version, from All Change, does not.  Will have to listen carefully…I got this from a compilation from a friend so I have no idea.

+You are the Everything by REM. From their 1988 album, Green. Stipe, of course, has refused to label himself as anything but queer…but has said he’s had relationships with both women and men…and has been with the same guy for years now.

+Into the Night by Michelle Malone and Drag the River. From her second album, Relentless, released in 1990 – as was this single. I’m not sure when she came out but she’s listed on numerous lesbians in music websites…

+Suedehead by Morrissey. Request.

+Don’t Doubt It by Deidre McCalla. Title track from her 1985 album from Olivia Records. She has come out numerous times…as if she had to, recording for Olivia!!

+Respect by Life of Agony.  From their 1993 debut album, River Runs Red, which is entirely about suicide…which says tons about what it was like to be transgender in the early 90s. The group’s leader, Keith Caputo, announced in 2011 that he was transitioning to female and is now known as Mina Caputo….and is a lesbian.

Hit the Ground by Darling Buds. 1988 single. Also the first track on their 1988 debut album, Pop Said…

Quiet Life by Japan. Title track to their third studio album. It was released in their native Britain in 1980, but 1979 elsewhere.

Sugar Town by M People. 1994 single from Bizarre Fruit, from the same year. Their 3rd album.

Aussies – 1983

*Erosion by Box of Fish. 1983 7” single release from this Sydney indie band – new to me!

*She’s Melting by The Spikes. 1983 single that got quite a bit of airplay on Australian radio & tv. They were an indie Adelaide punk band, which included Doug Thomas on guitar, (ex “Dagoes”, and founder of “Greasy Pop” records). The band were together until 1986. This is likewise new to me!

*Play the Game by Wendy Stapleton.  1983 single from the second line-up of Wendy and the Rockettes, though I’m pretty sure this recording is from a bit later.  Wendy herself is a well-known actor and singer in Australia – she played Delta Goodrem’s mum on Neighbours and Dusty Springfield in I Only Want to Be With You – The Dusty Springfield Story.

*Tacky by Pat Wilson. B-side to her only hit, Bop Girl, from 1983. It was also written by her then-husband, Ross.

*Listening by Pseudo Echo. 1983 single, also included on their 1984 debut album, Autumnal Park.

*Flick of the Switch by Ac/Dc. Title track from their 9th album. Came out in 1983.

*Spend the Night by Cheetah. Request.

We are Family by Sister Sledge. Request. For Joni Sledge who died suddenly of unknown causes today. She was just 60.

Happy Feeling by Sister Sledge. Request.

He’s the Greatest Dancer by Sister Sledge.

All through the Night by Cyndi Lauper.  My partner and I were in a bakery in Bright that weekend when Tanya covered for me and heard this song. She mentioned she hadn’t heard it in years and I said I’m not even sure I’d ever played it… So here it is, from 1984.

Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. From 1986 and the album Slippery When Wet.

Addicted to Love by Robert Palmer. From his 1985 album, Riptide, his 8th solo album! I had no idea. I met one of those sexy female musicians from the video back in 1986…she was playing for Tret Fure in a Northampton, MA coffeehouse. Bit of a comedown, but a muso’s gotta work.

I Melt with You by Modern English. From their second album, After the Snow, released in 1982. Great song!! Played just 1 minute so replaying next week.
