Playlists

Show 322

I Melt with You by Modern English. From their second album, After the Snow, released in 1982. Great song!! Played just 1 minute so replaying next week.

Victims by Culture Club. 1983 request.

Gimme Gimme Gimme by Abba. Request.

Johnny B. Goode by Leif Garrett. Request – for Chuck Berry who died at 90.

+Todo Empieza by Celeste Carballo. Argentinean lesbian, from her 1992 album, Chocolate Ingles. I don’t know anything about singing but apparently her voice covers 3.7 octaves, which is amazing. Coming out hasn’t affected her career at all, apparently, nor that of her partner at the time Sandra Mihanovich, whom I played awhile back.

Love is Stronger than Pride by Sade. Request.

+Jump for Joi by Joi Cardwell. Another new lesbian artist for me. This is from her debut album, The World is Full of Trouble, released in 1995. As was the single. Before hitting big herself she worked as a back-up session singer for Melba Moore, Jermaine Jackson, LL Cool J, and The Pointer Sisters.

+Sense of Doubt by David Bowie. Request.

Aussies – 1987

*Sweet Jesus Blue Eyes by Chad’s Tree. 1987 indie release. The band formed in Perth in 1983 around the Snarski brothers, Mark and Rob. New to me tonight.

*Hold Your Head Up by Party Boys.  Cover of this Argent classic from 1972. It appears on the Boys’ only album, a self-titled affair from 1987.

*Bury me Deep in Love by The Triffids.  Formed in Perth in May 1978 with David McComb as singer-songwriter, guitarist, bass guitarist and keyboardist. They achieved negligible success in Australia, but greater success in the U.K. and Scandinavia in the 1980s, till they disbanded in 1989. This is from their 4th album, Calenture, in 1987.

*Hindsight by The Hummingbirds.  Their 4th non-album single released in 1987 from Phantom records; Dragged Over the Coals was the B-side.

*Wedding Hotel by Rowland S Howard and Nikki Sudden. 1987 12” EP from these two.  Howard  was an Australian rock musician, guitarist and songwriter, best known for his work with the post-punk group The Birthday Party and his subsequent solo career, but he’d done all sorts of stuff throughout the 80s…including a number of duets and collaborations with Sudden, an English musician.  Both guys are dead now…

*Too Much Acid by Pineapples from the Dawn of Time. 1987 double A side single along with the track Saha.  They were a quartet – though the 4th was a drum machine – that played around Brisbane between 1985 and 1987. They had a bit of a cult following due to their on-stage antics and songs about mass murderers, science fiction shows, drugs and songs centering the life and times of 60s counterculture icon Charles Manson.

+Let’s Dance by David Bowie. Request to make up for the bad instrumental.

Fourth Reich by Stratovarius. Request. 1994

Say it isn’t So by Hall & Oates. From their 1983 compilation album, Rock ‘n Soul Part 1 (also titled Greatest Hits – Rock ‘n Soul Part 1). I find it very strange when bands put previously unreleased material on greatest hits albums…such as this one…it obviously isn’t a great hit if it hasn’t been released.

Gloria by Laura Branigan. 1982 platinum hit of this Italian remake. It featured on her 1982 debut album release, Branigan. Oddly, it wasn’t the album’s lead single (All Night With Me) – but it’s the one that supported her till she died at age just 47.

Do that to me One More Time by The Captain & Tennille. 1980 single, the second US no. 1 for the duo. This track was written by Toni Tennille for their 5th studio album, Make Your Move. I’m not sure I’ve played them before…

Rhythm of the Night by DeBarge. Title track to their 1985 album, their 4th. It was an early major hit written by Diane Warren, who has written for everybody: from Aerosmith and Kiss to Michael Bolton and Celine Dion…and everybody in between.
