Playlists

Show 324

Silver Trees by Henry Badowski. From his 1981 solo album, Life is a Grand. He’s British and did a lot of work before going solo.

+Piss Slave by Smokey. I can’t find a year but they were active only from mid-70s to early 80s so I’m pretty sure it’s ok. And besides, how could I turn down a track that’s been described as “probably the most cheerfully filthy song on the planet at the time”? So, language warning for this one…  All-gay glam rock band.

The Shoop Shoop Song by Cher. Request.

The Ballad of Dorothy Parker by Prince. Request.

+Tonight will be the Night by Limahl. From his 1986 album, Colour All My Days. Did you know his real name is Chris Hamill? He released a couple of tracks in 1980 under his real name, a christmas track and Angel, his debut, but I can’t find it… Been out for years.

+KKK by Mama Quilla II. Indie all-female new wave/funk band from Canada. LGBTI for Susan Cole, who was with the band for this release, their only one, in 1982. After this they changed their name and Cole left to pursue other projects.

After the Love has Lost its Shine by Regina Belle. Request.

Let’s Start Over by Miles Jaye. Request.

Aussies from 1984

*Surfin Prostitute Beat by The Acid Drops. New to me tonight. Yes, I’ve been trying to have at least one new Aussie each week for the past month or two.  This one’s from their 1984 debut EP. They were a South Australian band active between 1982-1985.

*I’m Tuff by George Smilovici. Comedy track that hit the charts in 1984. This is the only standup comedian to have a number 1 international hit. He knocked Stevie Wonder off the number 1 spot here.

*Love Somebody by Rick Springfield. From his 1984 soundtrack album Hard to Hold, from the film starring Springfield and a couple of women I’ve never heard of.

*The Biggest Movie Ever Made by Tangled Shoelaces. This is from their only release, a 1984 EP. They’re from Brissy.

*Burn for You by INXS. From the Swing, their 1984 release…their 4th studio album and the last one that was a hit only in Australia. Their next, Listen Like Thieves, brought them fame and fortune in the US.

*I Saw You First by The Allniters. A 1984 follow up single to their only major hit, Montego Bay.

You put a Move on My Heart by Tamia & Quincy Jones. Request.

True Colors by Cyndi Lauper. Request.

Stars and Stripes of Corruption by The Dead Kennedys. Request.

+Sleaze by Marc and the Mambas. This is doubly LGBTI as Marc is Marc Almond and the band also features out lesbian Annie Hogan. This is their debut single release from 1982.
