Show 329 – Radiothon! Triple Bent Cabaret

I’m Still Here by Yvonne DeCarlo. From her 1984 recording of this Steven Sondheim classic from Follies…she’s apparently made it famous back when it began in 1971. She was, of course, also Mrs Munster for you GenX folks!!

Still the One by Orleans.  Written by Johanna Hall and John Hall, and recorded for the album Waking and Dreaming, released in 1976.  Today John Hall is a Democratic member of the US House of Reps for NY city and a bit of a lefty on nuclear and other issues.

+Still Ill by The Smiths. 1984

I still Do by The Cranberries.  First track from their debut album, “Everybody else is doing it so why can’t we?”  Never released as a single but my fave from the album.

I Still Want You by The Del Fuegos.  This Boston based band was made up of lead singer Dan Zanes, guitarist Warren Zanes (his brother), bassist Tom Lloyd, drummer Steve Morrell, later replaced by Brent “Woody” Giessmann and keyboardist Br. Cleve.  Since breaking up in the 90s, Warren and Tom have both gone on to get PhDs and Dan has won a grammy for his kids’ music.  This was a 1986 single and one of their 2 most successful.

Wir Leben immer…Nach (We are Living…Still) by Nina Hagen. A cover of Lene Lovich’s track Lucky Number (1979) that appeared on her band’s second and final album, Unbehagen (also 1979), which means discomfort or unease…which was the state of the band. They recorded the music in Germany while she did the lyrics in LA.

Dance While the Music Still Goes On by Abba. From Waterloo, so technically outside of my era, but as you know, I always make an exception for Abba!

Aussies

*YouTube: Still In Love with You by Sherbet.  From their 1977 album Photoplay, which was their 6th studio album in as many years.  It was called Magazine in the US but failed to chart.  Their next album was released under the name Highway when their marketers decided that Sherbet was a lame name and was affecting sales…it didn’t help and they weren’t heard from again in the US till the internet made music global.

*I still call Australia Home by Olivia Newton John. She covered the tune in 1984 for the LA summer Olympics. I can’t play the Peter Allen original because I already have this year.
