Bullying – it sucks but what can we do about it!?

img_4338We received some pretty horrible news this week regarding the recent death of 13 year old Brisbane boy, Tyrone, after he took his own life.

Lots of speculations have been made that this is connected to the years of bullying he received for being same sex attracted.

This devastating news has reinforced how important it is to talk about bullying and what we can do to protect us from the harm it can cause.

9 out of 10 LGBTQIA+ teens have reported being bullied at school within the past year. And we know a lot of people often don’t speak up about being bullied.

So tonight we started the conversation off for you. I was joined by three amazing young people who shared their experiences, offered advice and explained how bullying has impacted their life.

Thanks so much to our guests: Lily, Lara, Jordan and Alan for joining us! And thanks to all the wonderful people that text in, shared their stories and helpful resources!

Remember there are always people who are there to offer you. Some helpful places to start include: Qlife, Lifeline, Safe Schools Representatives and Kids Help Line.

Look forward to chatting to you all next week!
