Beginning as a protest march in New York City to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, pride marches are now held right around the world. For some it is a celebration, for others, a protest – but all have become an international symbol of the defiance and hope of the LGBTI community.

In the afterglow of Melbourne’s annual pride march in St Kilda, we explore pride marches of the world.

• How can two neighbouring countries have polar opposite experiences in their pride marches?
• Why does a straight married man want to capture different pride experiences on film?
• What do pride events all have in common?

Waving their pride flags and placards, we are joined by:

• Romana Schlesinger – from Rainbow Pride Bratislava in Slovakia
• Czeslaw Walek – Chairman of Prague Pride
• Charles Meacham – a US photographer that has captured extraordinary images from pride marches around the world as part of the Walk With Pride project
