Global Attitudes to LGBTI People (Part 2)

pride_flagBroadcast – 07 February 2017

Late in 2016, a massive global survey of attitudes towards LGBTI people was released – the largest survey of its kind ever conducted, with 96,331 online individual responses from 65 countries. This included countries with very little focus on LGBTI rights, such as Algeria, Jamaica and the United Arab Emirates. In the second part of unpacking this hugely insightful survey, we ask;

  • In countries with poor LGBTI human and legal rights, how did this impact their attitudes towards their rainbow population?
  • How did Australian responses compare to the rest of the world?
  • What was the biggest surprise in the survey’s findings?

The survey was conducted by ILGA – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association. To discuss this fascinating report in greater detail, we speak with Aengus Carroll, co-author of The Personal and the Political: Attitudes to LGBTI People Around the World.
