Lior Suchard shot to fame after winning a 2007 TV show to take over from Uri Geller and hasn’t stopped wowing crowds the world over with his charm, wit and crazy ability to read and manipulate people’s minds.

He jumped into the back seat with Michael to demonstrate his talents, with JOYsters Leo and Leenie coming along for the ride.

Lior snapped forks, guessed songs, worked out Leo’s first love and got past Michael’s phone unlock screen, all while the JOY crew had no idea how he did a thing!

The Master Mentalist is travelling around Australia, with Melbourne getting the first taste of the new show on 29 and 30 January. Tickets are available through liorsuchard.com.au

Big V shooting hoops for Pride

The Big V is Victoria’s senior basketball league and Australia’s biggest. They held the first ever Pride Cup in 2015 between the Craigieburn and McKinnon associations, which was a major success.

Julie Anderson, Big V CEO, had a chat to Michael about the Pride Cup, where it came from, and how it has been received by the basketball community.

The 2nd Pride Cup is taking place on Saturday 30 January at the State Basketball Centre. Entry is free if you come with supporters and gold coin donation if you come on your own.

Fresh Air follows the Back Seat at 7pm, allowing JOY‘s new talent the chance to practice their skills in a real, live, radio program.

Jax and Greta are new to JOY, having some experience at youth sister station SYN and through JOY’s own Taste of Radio. They were given the Fresh Air reins this week.

The girls are fresh-faced, excited, funny and ready to go. You just might hear more of them soon…

She’s got her footing thanks to acting and modelling, but Hailee Steinfeld has now released her debut single. Becoming famous thanks to Pitch Perfect 2, and in particular her cover of Flashlight, the 18 year old Los Angeles native has quite a musical career ahead of her.

She may be friends with Tay Tay, but Love Myself is certainly a song that Steinfeld owns herself.

US band Maroon 5 have teamed up with Swedish DJ Alesso to produce the track of the northern summer. Originally littered with F-bombs, it’s now been tamed and ready for the masses.

Charles shines a light on Lachlan Beaton

The story of former footy player and coach, Lachlan Beaton, was shared in the pages of the Herald-Sun over the weekend and it has travelled around the world.

Coming out through a video about marriage equality, Lachlan also shared the extreme pain of his anxiety and depression due to keeping his sexuality a secret for so long.

Lachlan’s twin brother Charles jumped in the Back Seat with Michael to talk about his brother, what coming out has done for him and his family, and how it might affect others in the mainstream.

Melbourne guitar-drums duo This Way North jumped into the back seat.

Leisha Jungalwalla (of Jungal fame) and Cat Leahy crossed paths on the festival circuit in Canada in 2013, which led to a whole lot of jamming in Australia!

Leisha and Cat chatted with Michael and Fiona about their Canadian meeting and the crazy Fiona connection. They also tried to describe their music… sorta. The girls have released a brand new track as part of a new EP and will be performing all over the place.

The Black Arm Band takes Indigenous Australia to the World

The Black Arm Band is a Melbourne-based Indigenous performance company, which is celebrating its 10th birthday this year.

General Manager, Anna Jacobs, jumped in the back seat with Michael and Fiona to talk about the organisation, especially as Australia celebrates NAIDOC Week.

The company has already been celebrated for their productions, including their collaboration with the MSO called Ngangwurra Means Heart and the major production, Dirtsong.

Black Arm Band is off to Asia to present Dirtsong and they need your support to do so. If you donate $20 or more before 9 August, you’ll go into the draw to win a trip to Singapore and see the performance for yourself.
