Red Tape, Chernobyl, TV History, Scrooge, SciFi & “Australis”

Gay, History, Icons, Lesbian

On today’s show we talk about the origins of red tape. In Australia, it started on 15 Dec 1810 when Governor Macquarie introduced a building code into the new colony; where were the building and operation red tape that allowed Chernobyl to explode on 15 Dec 2000?

Phil reminds us about some events in TV history important in our lives, and the effect of ‘Nintendo epilepsy’ on 700 in Japan on this day in 1997.

With Christmas approaching, we talk about Charles Dickens’ ’Christmas Carol’ – the story that brought ‘Scrooge’ into common usage.

Arthur C Clarke born 16 Dec 1917 was a prophet of the space age & who wrote ‘2001 – a Space Odyssey’. He was buried in Sri Lanka, together with his male partner of 30 years.

We complete the circle, returning to Governor Macquarie who recommended on 21 Dec 1817 the use of the name Australia in lieu of Terra Australis or New Holland.
