Been There Done That

ATSI apology, M.White, J.Verne, T.Edison, C.Darwin, Decimal cash

Book, Environment, Gay, History, Inventions, Music, Science

This week’s show includes the anniversary of the ‘Sorry’ Apology given by PM Rudd to the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) peoples on 13 Feb 2008, and the understanding they have of their connection to ‘country’ – the earth. We expand this thought into the composition of everything – earth, water, air, fire and void/ether.

We recall the music and life of Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire and Boogie Wonderland fame. We ponder about the imagination of the 19thC writer Jules Verne and his futuristic concepts; of Thomas Edison and his 1000 or more patented inventions and of Charles Darwin who conceived the Origin of Species. This leads us on to the fantastic rate of technology as we reach well into the 21st Century. We are reminded that it is 50 years ago that Australia adopted decimal currency and all the other metric measures. We celebrate the artistry of the coins’ designer Stuart Devlin.

We celebrate some gay birthdays, plus other trivia and mirth.
