This week we celebrate various birthdays of LGBTI luminaries including Dana International, Mark Trevorro – aka Bob Downe, Steve Bronski [Bronski Beat], Donald Friend [artist], Don Dunstan SA Premier, and Mark Tewksbury – the Canadian swimmer who moved on from Olympic successes to being a public advocate for gay rights. We note that Matthew Mitcham has formally forsaken the diving tower for a career as a sports commentator and a cabaret artist.

We talk about last Sunday’s successful Pride March, Charles Dickens the wordsmith, William S Burroughs of the Beat Generation and Patricia Highsmith – the writer of the book ‘Carol’- the basis of a film showing at the moment. Locally, we talk about the discovery 100 years ago of opals at Coober Pedy, and of cloud seeding by CSIRO for promoting rainfall.

Plus some trivia and mirth …..
