This week is Child Protection Week (4 to 10 September) –a campaign to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of primary prevention to reduce harm and neglect of children, instilling the core principle of protecting children as everyone’s business.

A gay birthday this week is Sylvester (You make me feel mighty real)- singer /songwriter/drag queen from the 1970s & 80s who died in 1988 from an AIDS related illness

We discuss online Identity Theft and Gordon plays an interview he had about this subject with Nathan Besser–author of the novel Man in the Corner.

We lament the death of the last Tasmanian Tiger in 1936 and the loss of other species in Australia since Settlement.

We discuss 911 (i.e. September 11, 2001) with the anniversary coming up this week–which radically altered American perceptions.

September 8 is R U OK? day whose mission is to encourage everyone to connect to those around them and support anyone who’s struggling. Discussion of this then leads us onto the likely detrimental effect of the plebiscite on young people.
