This week, we are quite serious as we discuss the recent suggestion of Australia becoming a republic. We examine the process required to write a new Australian constitution to suit our 21^st Century world separated from Great Britain, and the incorporation of new concepts like recognition of our original peoples, respect of diversity and modern social constructs. It won’t be a quick ‘word-replacement’ re-write; the process should start soon?

Other legacies left for us to manage are the huge loss of Australian troops 100 years ago in WWI at Passchendaele, and the atomic fall-out from the 1950s atomic bomb testings in the ‘emptiness’ of outback Australia.

We consider the role of trans-folk in armed forces and how hate speech can be very toxic.

On a slightly lighter note, we are reminded about Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy stories with their elements of horror as part of the moral.
