Nothing says ‘Christmas’ like a glass of eggnog!
Recipe – Make a standard-recipe custard, cook till it thickens, add rum, brandy and some thickened cream; while cooling but still warm pour into cups or heatproof glasses and top with freshly whipped cream, cherries and sprinkle with nutmeg.

As we count down to Christmas in our exhausted condition, we consider those outstanding jobs which must be done – presents, food, drink, a tree and carols; all in the name of tradition and love.

Despite the Season, life continues and in history we remember the anniversaries of people and events at this time – like LGBT singers Ricky Martin & Sia Furler and ex-Greens Bob Brown.
Legacies still relevant today were contributed by French biologist and chemist Louis Pasteur (born on 27 December 1895) and masterful wordsmith Charles Dickens who first published his famous story “Christmas Carol” on 19 December 1843.
Gay notables (Sir) Noel Coward born 16 December 1899 and (Sir) Nigel Hawthorn died 26 December 1822 – were both masters of the spoken word.
We also remember Cyclone Tracy which devastated Darwin on Christmas Day 1974; the disastrous fire in London’s underground railway in 1987, and early attempts at powered-flight in heavier-than-air contraptions in the early 1900s.
