Are bi+ people really just doing it for attention? On this episode, our guest was L.A. based singer-songwriter Lucy & La Mer, whose music radiates self-love and joy while celebrating multi-gender attracted identity.

Lucy let us know about her bi+ identity and activism, as well as her passion for creating music that makes people feel good. Together, we unpacked the harmful stereotype that bi+ people are just doing it for attention, exploring how it shows up differently across genders, how it impacts dating and relationships, and how we can avoid others placing this stereotype on us.

In recognition of Intersex Awareness Day on 26th October, the Big Bi+ Questions team had a big chat about how bisexuality intersects with the intersex community.

We were so grateful to be joined by two wonderful guests: Training and Communications Co-Ordinator for Inter-Action, Margie McCumstie; and professional Intersex agitator and co host of JOY’s weekly Intersex show, The I In Us, Cody Smith.

We got to know Margie and Cody a little better and discussed how they’ve navigated their identities and the intersections they exist in.

Steph shares their story of growing up in Singapore, discovering bi+ identity, and turning that journey into comedy that’s as heartfelt as it is hilarious. We also talk about the bi+ experience across cultures, visibility, and how performance can turn personal identity into community connection. And she share her poem Dear 12 year old self!

What is Bi Imposter Syndrome and How Do We Tackle It?

Have you ever wondered if you’re “bi enough”? Bi imposter syndrome — also called queer imposter syndrome — is that feeling of doubt or fraudulence that can creep in when stereotypes, biphobia and heteronormativity weigh heavily on our sense of self.

In this episode of Big Bi+ Questions, we’re joined by Ashley, a registered counsellor specialising in LGBTQIA+ wellbeing, who brings both personal insight and professional experience to the discussion. Together we explore why imposter syndrome shows up in bi+ lives, how it can undermine our relationships and mental health, and the small but powerful steps we can take to challenge it. It’s a question many bi+ people had asked themselves at some point. In this episode, we were joined by Felipe to explore why this question came up, how we have navigated it, and what it might say about internalised bi-phobia, our attraction, and the pressure to “pick a side.”

Felipe also shared his journey of discovering his bi+ identity, which involved a move from Colombia to Australia, being supported by Thorne Harbor Health, and finding community with the Melbourne Bisexual Network, now merged with Bisexual Alliance Victoria, becoming a single organisation known as Bi+ Pride Victoria.

Bi+ people have consistently reported higher rates of mental health challenges compared to both straight and gay/lesbian people, but what are the reasons behind that?

In this episode, the Big Bi+ Questions team was joined by relationship counsellor and mental health social worker Anthony Lekkas to unpack this important topic.

For a long time, bi+ representation on TV was rare—and when it did appear, it often wasn’t great. One infamous example? The Sex and the City episode Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl…, where Carrie and her friends react very poorly to bisexuality. But how far have we come since then?
