Australia’s LGBTIQA+ community radio station JOY 94.9 is delighted to announce JOY Breakfast with The Murphys, hosted by Anna Murphy and Dean Murphy, airing weekdays from 7:00am-9:00am. This newly created show at JOY has been made possible with the support of JOY Patrons Geoffrey Smith and Gary Singer, who have donated funding to employ the new JOY Breakfast team.

Mr Smith and Mr Singer have expressed how important they feel it is to support independent community media, especially in the current climate, which is why they have chosen to support JOY in creating a daily breakfast show.

JOY 94.9 CEO Ange Barry says of the project, “this will enable JOY to create consistency in our daily sound, which we will leverage to attract ongoing sponsorship, securing the future of JOY. The team are kicking off on Wednesday 15 April, in time to prepare and settle in for our important Radiothon 2020, which begins next week.

Anna and Dean have been volunteer breakfast and drive hosts on various days at JOY for the past nine years.

Anna Murphy is a successful comedian in her own right. “Very honoured to have been chosen to present JOY Breakfast, particularly at a time when many are feeling isolated and craving connection to the community. We hope to be a source of comfort and light, and have a bloody good laugh with you all every day!”, said Anna.

Dean Murphy has previously worked as an on-air announcer at both Fox FM and Triple M. “I hope that with this opportunity that we’ve been given, that we can lift the spirits of our community in these uncertain times. Who would have thought that 10,000 bum jokes over 9 years would have qualified us for the position…breakfast radio may never be the same!“, added Dean.

The brother-sister duo are ready to hit the ground running with their first challenge, as JOY’s major fundraiser for the year starts next week, on the 22nd of April.
