briony kiddWe’re in the final week of the Melbourne International Film Festival! Sonja Hammer reviews some amazing films and interviews filmmaker Briony Kidd.

 

Briony is one of the founders of the Tasmania-based Stranger With My Face International Film Festival, a festival celebrating feminist horror and genre film. She’s in Melbourne as part of the MIFF Accelerator program which helps creators of short films break into the feature film industry, and has loads of great film recommendations.

 

 

 

robert greeneSonja also interviews Robert Greene, director of Kate Plays Christine. Along with Antonio Campos’ Christine, this is one of two film playing at MIFF this year about Christine Chubbick, a news reporter who committed suicide live on air in 1974. Kate Plays Christine follows the journey of actress Kate Lyn Sheil as she prepares to play the role of Christine, exploring the mindset of both women.

 

 

 

 

 

starless dreamsSonja reviews Starless Dreams, a documentary by Mehrdad Oskouei about Kurdish and Iranian teenage girls in a rehabilitation centre, and Kamila Andini’s Indonesian drama Following Diana.

 

The final interview of the show is with journalist Tasneem Chopra, who will be discussing family violence with Rosie Batty and Anne Summers at the Melbourne Writers Festival this month.
