Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week, the WWE Super Show-Down 2018 blew away Australian audiences last weekend with it’s massive event with 75,000 fans filing into the MCG to watch some of the biggest names in wrestling go head to head.

Rachel and special guest Jayden were invited along to a meet and greet event and took the time to interview some of the headlining names. The duo got to talk to the Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler about why their match up is such a perfect fit. Then Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan & Liv Morgan from The Riott Squad talk about appearing in a video game and what Australian animal would they like to be?

This week on the show, we talk about the industry we love, gaming, and the city we love, Melbourne. The Melbourne development scene has been booming, more so then any other city in Australia. What is it about Melbourne that has seen independent development studios flourish? Is it the same reason that major gaming events keep coming to Melbourne?

Elliot, Cam and Edie are joined by Matthew Clark from the Voxel Agents, creators of The Gardens Between. The team dig into how the local team created the time bending puzzler that created waves when PlayStation presented it on the main stage of the Paris Games Week. We also ruminate on our favourite Melbourne developed games such as Florence, Screen Cheat, Framed, Armello and more.

Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week, Cameron and Elliot investigate the phenomenon of Episodic Gaming. Popularised again in the modern industry by the success of the Telltale series, episodic gaming splits one large experience into smaller palatable moments. Often broken down and released over an extended period of time telling an overarching story.

Cameron looks at why, from a marketing perspective, episodic gaming seems to always be released in odd numbers. Elliot has his faith shooketh by the discovery that the Final Fantasy VII remake will be released in smaller episodes. The pair also take a moment to admit that they don’t really like the format and sometimes won’t finish them.

This week on the show, we talk about the ongoing craze of Game Jams! But what is a Game Jam? Usually taking place across a couple of days developers, artists and many others from the video game industry get together and let their hair down. With a theme, quite often an abstract one, groups are formed and get inventive piecing together a new game, sometimes even creating a bizarre smash hit.

Join Elliot, Cam, Sav and Rach as they break down what to expect from these types of events. Sav gives us the inside scoop of some of the Game Jams he’s taken part in while the rest of the team think over how important these events are for allowing creativity to blossom outside of industry expectations. The team also have a look at some games that went from Game Jams into the world for all of us to enjoy and what effect they’ve had on the gaming as a whole.

Rachel has also been putting some sports points up on the sports board in ‘the beautiful game’ with her review of FIFA 19!

Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week, Luke and Elliot take a look at sectional releases vs releasing an entirely encompassing product. Sometimes games release with multiple game modes under one umbrella however sometimes they are also released in parts even though they technically fall under one title.

The boys talks about the major difference between releasing together and separately. Comparing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which will offer Multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout in one package, and Battlefield V, which is rumoured to be releasing their Battle Royale mode as a seperate game. They also touch on delayed releases with Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Red Dead Online mode. As well as what happened in Fortnite when the original mode was paid but the added Battle Royale was free to play.

This week on the show, we take a look at one of the most subjective genres in any form of media, comedy. Comedy and games have crossed paths plenty of times and even in some of the most serious games a moment of levity and comedy can bring charm and endear you to a franchise.

Join Luke and Elliot as they are joined by the Game Boys, Josh and Eden, to get elbow deep into the lighter side of gaming. The Game Boys let us know about their new Melbourne Fringe Festival show, Wide World of Esports. We look at how important great writing is for comedy and how leaning in to the absurd wether it be tone or mechanics can make for an instant classic.

Luke makes sure to darken the tone though as he takes one of the leading ladies of gaming on a one woman Predator remake through the Mexican jungle with his review of Shadow of the Tomb Raider!

Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week, Luke and Edie put passionate opinions in the gaming world under the microscope. Why do gamers get so determined in their dislike for games or genres? Why is it important to always be open and adaptable to the pros and cons of games, but what happens when it’s about a game we love?

Edie tells a story of a time a friend hated a game and dismissed her enjoyment for it even though they had never played it and Luke looks at how being a fan can very easily override critical thought when it comes to our favourite games such as Dragon Quest XI and The World Ends With You but also how it’s important to acknowledge a games shortcomings if you love it, like Silent Hill.
