As we all know by now, the beautiful people of Australia have spoken, and we won the YES vote for same sex marriage.
With a population of 24,571,394 (keep in mind that most babies don’t vote) 12,691,234 people voted, 61.6% voted yes, with 38.4% voting against. Only 20.5% of eligible voters did not vote. While the vote itself doesn’t hold any power over legislation, our government is now seriously considering legalising same sex marriage, and our PM has stated that he hopes for SSM to be legal by Christmas.
We are so close to being on par with countries such as Canada, France, Brazil, New Zealand, Belgium, South Africa, Spain, Columbia, Germany, Finland, Malta, The Unites States and a few more.
This is huge for LGBTQIA+ Australians and the queer community all over the world.
This 30 minute podcast includes Dano and Mason’s commentary on the day following the announcement. Some of the topics discussed are:
