Dano and Mason are running away from Homo.

For our final show we have flung open the doors and invited all our favourites in for a chat about whatever the hell we want.

We discovered one lonely last Dano and Mason Trucker Cap in the present cupboard – so we decided to give it away to the winner of the first ever episode of Have you been Gaying attention.

The show includes:

– Dean Arcuri talking about his time at Naked Man

– Ben Noris (who thinks he is the first person to tell dano and mason that Cack is a term for poo)

– Tabitha 1 (who admits finally that she doesn’t really listen to the show when she is in

– Cam from C&C drive factory drops in to ask for his drive slot back

– Gabby Gllo cries (we think)

– Robbie Rock star has his FINAL ever shift on the desk at joy (goodbye after 9 years of service)

– Senator Janet Rice calls in from Parliament House to talk about what is happening on the last sitting day of the year

– Con reads the news

– Judy  Reads Ode #3 “an ode to dano and mason”

– Junior reporter Hazel swings by to explain the “Elf on a shelf” phenomenon

– Mark from Brekky Bears tries his luck at the quizz

– and we introduce Aimee and Maddie who will be taking over the 4-6:30

This week the role of Dano will be played by the one and only Benjamin Norris. We miss you Dano, but who doesn’t love a bit of Ben?

Dano (Ben) & Mason had director Sue Thomson and the always inspiring Michelle Brooker in the studio to give us the low down on Sue’s film premiere of The Coming Back Out Ball Movie (try saying that five times fast). This documentary has been chosen to close the Melbourne International Film Festival this weekend, so tune in to hear more about what promises to be a fascinating and emotional look into the lives of our LGBTQIA+ elders.

P.S. How rad is it that MIFF chose to highlight an LGBTIQA+ film by making it part of the closing night celebration?

Here’s more on The Coming Back Out Ball Movie from the film buffs:

“In what is set to be one of the most celebratory conclusions to the festival in years, MIFF will screen The Coming Back Out Ball Movie to bring the festival to a close. Directed by Sue Thomson and supported through the MIFF Premiere Fund, The Coming Back Out Ball Movie is a triumphant and life-affirming love letter to Australia’s original fighters for queer equality – a film that will have audiences laughing, crying and ready to dance, darling”

LGBTQIA+ seniors have been pioneers in many ways, beginning the fight for equality in an era when being queer could land you in jail, lose you your job or worse. But as they have aged, some started going back into the closet in nursing homes or when accessing aged-care services, owing to feeling unsafe in these environments.

In the middle of Australia’s divisive marriage equality vote, Melbourne hosted a gala event to honour and celebrate its LGBTQIA+ elders. These are their stories.

This film will close the festival. It’s on at 1.30pm and 7.15pm on Sunday 19 August at ACMI.

Tickets are selling fast.

Dano’s gone fishing, and Mason can’t be left alone (this is why we can’t have nice things, Mason!) so Lee Casey is taking over as guest co-host this week. Everything you need to know about Lee is that she looks exactly like her Bitmoji, and she works with the Science Gallery, which is rad.

Dano (played by Lee) & Mason talk moving north of the river – that’s lesbian north, for non-Melbournites – and the changes Mason’s going to have to make to fit in, gay weddings and the politics of a second-hand suit, and spending up big on condoms.

Special guest and exceptional art curator Jacqueline Doherty also joins the conversation to talk about her latest exhibition State of the Union. Producer Rachel forgot to tell Jacqueline (call me Jacquie) that there would be jokes (this isn’t the ABC), but we think she keeps up with Mason just fine, don’t you?

Details for State of the Union exhibition can be found here.

AND check out the Science Gallery website here.

With the 9 to 5 film remake, Dano and Mason have taken it upon themselves to recast the originals with a more current bunch. They also chat with Simon Trevorrow and Grant Scicluna representing ‘Fresh’, a new web series written and produced by Nikki Tran.

Web series FRESH! springs from an exciting crop of new Aussie filmmakers, paying homage to market life with one of the most culturally diverse ensembles in Australian storytelling history. After its theatrical premiere at the Melbourne edition of Series Mania, lauded by Variety as a festival that “is to TV drama what the Cannes Film Festival is to film,” the short-form series was launched online, with all six episodes available on YouTube.

From creator and writer/producer Nikki Tran and producer Simon Trevorrow, FRESH! is a warm and satirical workplace dramedy that takes us into the joys and pitfalls of multi-culturalism against the backdrop of a Melbourne fresh food market. Set in a world where businesses are still family-run and bargains are bellowed in at least three different languages, the series brings into focus observations on race, workplace politics and family dynamics. FRESH! was filmed at local markets operating across Melbourne, including Footscray, Preston and Dandenong markets.

Tran says, “Footscray Market was integral to how my family connected to the wider community. As a child of parents who were once refugees, it’s important for me to create something that honours the experiences and stories of migrants in Australia, but not romanticise them.”

All episodes streaming worldwide on YouTube from WEDNESDAY 25 JULY 2018

JOY 94.9 has installed a revolving door for all the killer guests lined up to talk to Australia’s best all-female drive show, and this week D&M spoke with Leeanna Walsman and Maude Davey about their roles the stage adaptation of Melancholia. Visit here for more info, or just get down to the show and see what they’re doing for yourselves.

On the night of her boisterous wedding—amid corsages, canapés and Clicquot—Justine quietly falls apart. The world will surely follow suit.

Justine’s sister Claire stages a lavish wedding party at a mansion in the mountains, and as the fever dream of the wedding ceremony careens towards disaster, Justine is drawn to an innocuous spot in the sky. That spot is the wayward planet Melancholia, on a collision course with Earth.

This epic cinematic masterpiece is reimagined for the stage adaptation of Lars von Trier’s cinematic masterpiece Melancholia by ground-breaking playwright Declan Greene and directed by Matthew Lutton, featuring an extraordinary ensemble of performers.

Two powerful women facing off against the apocalypse, this landmark production promises to be scintillating, mesmerising and profoundly devastating.

The 2011 movie was billed as a ‘beautiful film about the end of the world’, which starred Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, John Hurt and Keifer Sutherland. It was critically lauded and earned Dunst the Festival’s Best Actress Award for her performance.

Al Cossar- Associate Artistic Director of the Melbourne International Film Festival joined us in studio to talk about the program, 373 minutes of Nic Cage and the best queer films of the festival.

Celebrating its 67th year, The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) has unveiled its 2018 program. Featuring 254 feature films, 90 shorts and 19 virtual reality experiences, the festival will include 27 world premieres and 168 Australian premieres over 18 action-packed days of cinema.

In a program hallmarked by its geographic and directorial breadth, the programming team – led by Carey and Associate Artistic Director Al Cossar – has weaved a series of curatorial threads that will enable audiences to experience films from 80 countries.

This year’s audiences will be presented with the festival’s largest ever selection of titles direct from Cannes, along with a collection of recently rediscovered and restored African cinema and a unique look at fashion’s influence on film and film’s influence on fashion.

Elsewhere, there will be a focus on Indigenous stories and storytelling and a retrospective look at the dazzling Italo-Crime genre.

For the first time since 2007, MIFF will take over Melbourne’s grand old picture palace, the Regent Theatre for its entire opening weekend.

In what is set to be one of the most celebratory conclusions to the Festival in years, MIFF will screen The Coming Back Out Ball Movie to bring the festival to a close. Directed by Sue Thomson and supported through the MIFF Premiere Fund, The Coming Back Out Ball Movie is a triumphant and life-affirming love letter to Australia’s original fighters for queer equality – a film that will have audiences laughing, crying and ready to dance, darling.

When there’s no guests here at Dano and Mason, things can get… interesting. Here’s a short podcast with some of last weeks best bits, including a lovely chat on scrotox (yes it is what you think), painting the rainbow road, big dick energy, the sexiest older lesbians around.

The podcaster doesn’t want to do anymore googling of risky subjects (I’ve seen way too much) so here’s a picture of an adorable pup.

Brave World

Acclaimed Aussie performer, actor, director and writer Maude Davey joined us in studio to chat all about her wild new show Brave World (ENDING SOON) and her work being a part of the Retro Futurismus.

“A nostalgic look at the future, the way we saw it in the past”

The Feminista Supernovas of Retro Futurismus are back, conjuring grand visions out of two-dollar-shop bling and obsolete technology. Anna LumbAnni and Maude Davey and Teresa Blake take variety to a neo-high, combining incendiary circus, demented dance, post-human posturing and prophetical idiocy. In their brand new Brave World they fire off the arrow of time, taking reality and making it realer, spinning lies to tell the truth.

Anni and Maude Davey – of Retro Futurismus – bring their blend of circus, cabaret, burlesque and performance art back to Melbourne

If you caught the madcap Retro Futurismus: New World back in 2016 or have encountered their antics at any one of their Festival shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin, Adelaide or Western Australia, you’ll know to expect the unexpected from this category-defying vaudeville troupe. Combining circus, cabaret, burlesque, performance art and almost anything else you can think of, their latest show sees twins Anni and Maude Davey and company turn their attention and diverse set of performance skills to philosophising about the current state the world – to undoubtedly hilarious effect.
