INTERVIEW: Tom Mosby from The Koorie Heritage Trust about the new exhibition entitled “BLAK DESIGN MATTERS”

David & Sue talk to Tom Mosby from the Koorie Heritage Trust about its current exhibition entitled “Blak Design Matters” which is open from 21 July until 30 September 2018 in the Koorie Heritage Trust Galleries at Fed Square. Make sure you don’t miss this incredible survey of contemporary indigenous design which has been curated by Jefa Greenaway

The exhibition is described as follows on the Koorie Heritage site:

“BLAK DESIGN MATTERS

A national survey of Contemporary Indigenous Design curated by Jefa Greenaway.

As Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers are leading a movement away from collaborative or consultative models to Indigenous-led design, this survey exhibition showcases contemporary Indigenous design projects from across Australia. From fashion, interiors, and product design to landscape, architecture and town planning, the exhibited projects will interrogate how Indigenous design is defined, received, and made visible in Australia’s contemporary design landscape, asking the question, what is meaningful Indigenous design and why does it matter?

  • Exhibition Dates: 21 July – 30 September 2018
  • Koorie Heritage Trust Galleries, Lvl 1, Yarra Building, Federation Square, Melbourne

Designers: Anindilyakwa Arts, Arkie Barton (Arkie the Label), Bábbarra Women’s Centre, Balarinji, Maree Clarke, TJ Cowlishaw (Aarli), Kristy Dickinson (Haus of Dizzy), Gilimbaa, Carroll Go-Sam, Jefa Greenaway, Paul Herzich, Injalak Arts, Dillon Kombumerri, Francoise Lane, Grace Lillian Lee, Marcus Lee Design, Merrepen Arts, MiArt Designs, Nicole Monks, and Lyn-Al Young.”
