Bernadene Voss, Mayor, City of Port Philip

This week Elizabeth and Ron talk with Bernadene Voss, Mayor of the City of Port Philip about the exciting new developments that are revitalizing Port Melbourne and creating a vertical city on the outskirts of the City of Melbourne. The main focus is Fisherman’s Bend (an area of 491 hectares shared by the City of Port Philip and the City of Melbourne) rezoned in 2012 as the largest urban renewal area in Australia. Bernadene discusses the plans for the area, which will eventually house 80,000 residents and host 60,000 new jobs, including vertical schools and parks; innovative open spaces; early introduction of public transport; car free suburbs; how the development differs from Docklands and the challenges and opportunities still to come.
