Time for a pep talk, well, a PEP talk that is. We are joined by queer content creator Odus Moore to share a little about self advocating in healthcare settings as an LGBTIQ+ person. Recently, Odus needed to access PEP – medication to prevent HIV after a recent exposure – and was met with some perceived queer phobia and didn’t walk away with the medication they needed.

PEP can be taken to prevent HIV after a recent exposure – but needs to be taken within 72 hours. And, the earlier the better.

Odus shares what happened when they visited a public hospital and had a negative experience, which they turned into a training and capacity building experience for clinicians at the hospital – but not before being bullied and gaslit online!

Plus, we chat about mpox and preventing it by getting vaccinated!

Laird Leatherman Craig, our special guest, returns to join us in exploring what it means to exist as non-binary individuals in spaces traditionally defined by gender. We’re also joined by Haydan from Eagle Leather and Melbourne Rubber for this insightful conversation.

During our discussion, we delve into topics such as cis-presenting privilege within our transgender community, the vital aspect of radical visibility, and the implications of gendered titles like ‘LeatherMAN’ for individuals who don’t align with traditional gender identities.

Our conversation extends to the efforts made by some of our communities to create more inclusive spaces for non-binary individuals. We also reflect on the necessity of recognizing our own limitations, biases, and comfort levels when navigating gender-segregated environments, whether it’s dance parties, sex parties, or venues.

In addition, we have an exciting announcement from Melbourne Rubber, exclusively for our podcast listeners!

Body dysmorphia affects queer men in nuanced ways, and while we can’t unpack every single element – we’re going to give it our best shot! Some guys experience body dysmorphia through muscle dysmorphia – sometimes called ‘bigorexia’ where the adoration of bigger bodies can become more than a erotic fascination, but a driver in how we perceive ourselves – sometimes with negative consequences.

Spencer Colt rejoins us to talk about his experience, and how our image can sometimes be tied to schoolyard bullies, and if we push ourselves beyond our limits we could just find ourselves halfway up Mt. Fuji with a double patella dislocation.

Now, not all experiences of body dysmorphia are under this umbrella – so we want to hear from you. If you’ve experienced some form of body dysmorphia we’d love to hear form you. Be that slender guys, chunky boys, tall or short guys – anyone who feels their body doesn’t match up with what their brain thinks it should be.

Oh, did we mention? We are winners!

We were so chuffed to be the recipients of the 2023 Addam Stobbs Award for Broadcasting Excellence at the JOY AGM!

Addam was a longtime presenter of Allegro Non Troppo at JOY until his passing in 2010 and this award is named for him.

At a time when our community is attacked, called groomers and pedophiles by hate commentators simply for daring to be their authentic selves- it’s truly an honour for us to be able to have the trust of JOY to present a show on broadcast radio about queer sex. Our sex lives form an important part of our lives, and queer pleasure is something we’ll fight tooth and nail to celebrate. So, thank you to the entire team at JOY for acknowledging us this year. Most imortantly, thank you to all our amazing guests who have candidly shared their thoughts and often intimate personal experiences of sex. Here we have a really quick reflection on the night and winning the award.
