Gambler’s Curse

On the eve of the biggest betting date on our sports calendar, Jim and James speak with Prof. Samantha Thomas from Deakin University about gambling culture in Australia, especially the effects of the pokies on individuals and communities.

Australia has 2% of the world’s population, but 20% of the world’s pokies, which means that’s there is a serious issue with gambling culture that has led to social problems that are now becoming evident, thanks in no small part to the ABC exposé, Ka-ching!

Aired on 2nd of November, 2015 (the 40th Anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show).
