It’s been a year since Victoria joined Queensland & the ACT in banning harmful ‘conversion’ practices that attempt to change or suppress someone’s sexual orientation or gender.
Since the law’s introduction, the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission have been working with faith leaders, queer people of faith, and survivors of conversion practices to educate communities about the harm they cause and their legal obligation to stop them occurring.
But there’s still a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication when it comes to what that means. So, a couple of days ago they launched a video that cuts through the confusion so that we can cut through the chatter, all get on the same page and end these damaging practices across the country for good.
Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commissioner Ro Allen joined Rach & Dean on JOY Breakfast to share more about why this video was created and why we should share it, and the VEOHRC’s resources via their website far and wide.
