On a fabulous June evening Wayne from Monday Breakfast and Raena from Technogaze on JOY frocked up and set off for the Annual Queens Ball held in Meanjin, Brisbane. Picture this: Brisbane City Hall transformed into a kaleidoscope of sequins, tuxedos, and rainbow flags swaying to a rhythm that’s equal parts disco throwback and modern anthem. For 60+ years, this glittering beast of a party has been our community’s beating heart.
Wayne and Raena caught up with some of the award winners and attendees, hear their chats in this special edition podcast.

A Comedian, Community Champion and Acting Superintendent of Victoria Police walk into the JOY Studios. This could be the start of a bad joke or make for an great episode of JOY Breakfast with Dee Mason. Thankfully for us it is the latter!

Jenna Davey Burns chats with Dee about the incredibly generous and vital community work Refugee Sponsorship does around Australia. Acting Superintendent at Victoria Police Mark Zervaas explain the Department of Transports new STOPIT Campaign and how it benefits every Victorian. Lou Wall stops by to have some laughs and talk about her hilarious new show Breaking the Fifth Wall as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2025.

Breast Screening in the LGBTQIA+ Community: Get yourself a bosom buddy!!

Chances are that if you are a person you have been touched by breast cancer in some way.

Maybe you are living with a diagnosis currently – perhaps you are a survivor – but almost certainly in Australia today, you know somebody who has been diagnosed or lost a loved one.

Breast cancer accounts for 14% of all cancer deaths in Australian women with over 3200 of us dying from it each year and the rates have increased year on year.
The good news is that Australia has one of the best breast cancer survival rates in the world and we live in a country that offers free mammograms to all women aged 50-74 every 2 years and that early detection is key to survival.
While the statistics are sobering – 1 in 7 Australian women will likely be diagnosed in their life – one statistic that has me flummoxed is that women in the LGBTQIA+ community are more than twice as likely to never have a breast screen.

To help unpack that host Dee Mason was joined by BreastScreen Victoria’s CEO Rita Butera.
