Fiona Patten was on the Second Breakfast speaking with Sonja about her bill to create safety exclusion zones around clinics that provide abortions.
The private member’s bill that the Sex Party MP recently introduced in the Victorian Legislative Assembly would ban anti-abortion protesters from getting within a certain distance of clinics. The bill would provide crucial protection from the harassment that people often suffer when exercising their legal right to access an abortion.
Fiona and Sonja discuss the bill including the crucial question of what is going to happen next, how long it might be until these measures come into practice, the journey that it’s taken to get the bill to this point, and the wonders of parliamentary cooperation!
