Despite this, Uncle Richard has found healing through his culture, his family and through the process of facilitating Aboriginal voice through the arts – be it on stage, through poetry or through song and music.

Uncle Richard talks about Australian and Aboriginal politics, grieving, culture, pride, history all in the context of wanting to find a future that provides hope.

Maree Clarke https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/08/13/maree-clarke/ Wed, 13 Aug 2014 10:40:32 +0000 http://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/?p=270 https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/08/13/maree-clarke/#respond https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/08/13/maree-clarke/feed/ 0 This Lefty Pinkoes podacast features gentle ‘lovee’ Maree Clarke, an artist whose work is dedicated to celebrating, maintaining and reviving traditional Aboriginal cultural practices, jewlery and ceremonial dress.

Hailing from Mildura, Maree gives us insight into how she researches the ancient traditions she represents, the materials she uses and the roadkill she honours; we say honour as it all fits in with her vegan diet and ethics.

To access her work, we wholeheartedly encourage you to head down to Bunjilaka in the Melbourne Museum to see her ‘kopi cap’ installation that relates to mourning rituals from the northern parts of the Murray River region.

We dedicate this podcast to Maree’s new hunter husband Nicholas.

Kath Duncan and a glimpse into her amazing life https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/08/06/kath-duncan-and-a-glimpse-into-her-amazing-life/ Wed, 06 Aug 2014 05:06:34 +0000 http://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/?p=264 https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/08/06/kath-duncan-and-a-glimpse-into-her-amazing-life/#respond https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/08/06/kath-duncan-and-a-glimpse-into-her-amazing-life/feed/ 0 Kath and bryan have always had this perennial back-up plan in the unlikely event that a lined-up guest falls through. That plan: flip a coin, call an outcome and the loser becomes the interviewee. We’re both pleased to say that we’ve never had to serve ourselves up as a guest to the mercy of the other.

But for this week’s show, incidentally our 69th Lefty Pinkoes broadcast, we feature a chat with hot seat, co-host extraordinairre Kath Duncan!

Kath join us to talk about her live, her loves, her political affiliations and her plans for the future. bryan is joined by Emma and Lauren as there’s an announcement we make too as part of this podcast.

Tasty Raid 20th Anniversary https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/07/29/tasty-raid-20th-anniversary/ Tue, 29 Jul 2014 13:45:39 +0000 http://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/?p=259 https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/07/29/tasty-raid-20th-anniversary/#respond https://joy.org.au/leftypinkoes/2014/07/29/tasty-raid-20th-anniversary/feed/ 0 Delicious, scrumptious, Tasty DJ Gavin Campbell joins bryan and Patrick (Kath couldn’t make it) to mince down memory lane. This week’s Lefty Pinkoes podcast delves into one of Melbourne town’s most infamous LGBTI rights moments: the Tasty Raid.

On August 7 1994, Victoria Police raided a Tasty night and detained over 460 clubbers for almost seven hours as part of a dubious law enforcement exercise that prompted a landmark class action, one that changed the human rights landscape for LGBTI Victorians.

To mark the 20th Anniversary of the raid, the Tasty crew are running with their strengths; they’re planning the Tasty Raid 20th Anniversary Party! Listen to our chat to find out how, when and why you should join them on dancefloor to mark the occasion.
