SCAR – saving lives one pet at a time

We sent Dylan out to get spayed when SJ & Marisa from Second Chance Animal Rescue dropped by MAD Wednesday to chat with Dean and tell us all about this fantastic volunteer organisation.

Second Chance Animal Rescue was founded in 2008 after Marisa witnessed firsthand how many beautiful animals needed help, versus how little resources were available.

Thanks to this team of foster carers and volunteers, Second Chance Animal Rescue realised that by the end of 2015 over 6000 animals had been rescued from not-so-pleasant fates in pounds and shelters throughout Victoria, and are now happily settled in new homes around the state.

They are now creating the SCAR Animal Hospital, Hume’s first non-profit animal hospital, offering pet owners affordable/free health care for their animals as part of Pick my Project. with all proceeds will go towards Second Chance Animal Rescue to support homeless animals in the community.

But they need you to vote for them so they they can get the funding to build the hospital, which will have a huge emphasis on pet ownership education and health care and offer medical treatments ranging from routine vaccinations and health checks, to diagnostics and special surgeries. Offering customised training programs to the community, never turn away a sick animal and help keep pets in family homes by ensuring that any pet owner can afford healthcare for their animal.

They are also on the hunt for poster animals to be the face of the Community Animal Hospital, could your pet be the super star they are after?

Entries are open Australia wide and winners will receive a supply of pet food from Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a goody bag from Second Chance Animal Rescue and also receive the digital images from our professional photo shoot of their pet. Winning animals will also star in all marketing for the Hospital as well as the big Community Animal Hospital sign out front.

Come hit a wicket or two for Proud Cricket Day 2018

On Sunday 8 April 2018, Cricket Victoria and Proud2Play will host Proud Cricket Day at our new home at Junction Oval.

James Lollicato from Proud2Play and Rohan O’Neill from Cricket Victoria popped in MAD Wednesday to talk about coming along and joining in the day.

The day will see current Proud Cricket clubs, supporting organisations, community partners and members of the general public come together to celebrate the achievements we’ve made in ensuring that cricket remains inclusive of all communities, including the LGBTI+ community. There will be a range of activities for the kids on the day and a friendly and social round robin competition.

Getting your shine on for IMsBB2018 with Bootblack KL

Bootback KL dropped by MAD Wednesday to talk about boot-blacking and more. She is heading over to America for the International Ms Bootblack Competition and we couldn’t wait to hear all about it.

She is having a sendoff on Friday the 4th April, why not pop in and help see her off and get her shine on.
