Dive into Melbourne 2020 with Tom Luchsinger

With Melbourne 2020, the international Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championships, hitting Melbourne this week, ambassador and American swimmer Tom Luchsinger joined Dean on MAD Wednesday along with Paul from The Glamourheads.

IGLA is the world’s foremost international organisation solely devoted to developing and promoting gay and lesbian swimming, water polo, diving, and synchronised swimming. Each year IGLA sanctions an international aquatics sports championships in a different international city, with one in every four years coinciding with the Gay Games – this year it is Melbourne.

IGLA’s mission is to promote participation in aquatic sports among lesbians, gay men and friends of our community, and to ensure maintenance of the highest standards for aquatic competitions for all Gay Games and IGLA Championships.

Glamourheads dive into fundraising with the 24 hour Mega Swim

Melbourne’s inclusive LGBTQI swim team  The  Glamourheads are again swimming for a cause at  the  Fitzroy with the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim and stopped by MAD Wednesday to tell Robbie and Dean All about it.

 The Glams  mission is to provide an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment for  the  LGBTQI community to participate in swimming for fitness and competition and this year marks  their 11th  year swimming laps to raise money for people living with multiple sclerosis.

The MS 24 Hour Mega Swim is a fun team relay event where teams have a swimmer in the water for the entire 24 hours and compete for laps swum and money raised, in support for people living with multiple sclerosis. It is one of Australia’s most popular and fastest-growing fundraising events, bringing communities together.

Head to the Fitzroy Pool on Friday Feb 28th through to Sat 29th Feb to cheer them on.

Body stigma goes both ways – what do we do about it?

Simon Dunn joined Robbie and Dean as guest cohost on MAD Wednesday, and they all got to talking stigma in the queer community and body positivity.

The BBC released an article highlighting extremes gay men have gone to change their bodies to fit in, sometimes at risk to themselves. The guys dive into what this means to them and how we can all be better to one another.

Get ready for a fab IGLA2020 fundraiser with Queens of the Pool

Paul Whelan from the Melbourne Glamourheads joined Robbie & Dean on MAD Wednesday to talk about the teams fundraiser for the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Associations Gay Games, Queens of the Pool.

A drag battle being held at Sircuit on Saturday 23rd March will see Melbourne Surge and the Glamourheards battle it out to raise funds which will help set-up the website and marketing to reach overseas competitors for IGLA2020 in Melbourne next year.

Hosted by Art Simone, performers Donatella Whyfe and Johnny Gash from the Glams first drag fundraiser will return as well as Todd Patrick in a show that’s not to be missed.

IGLA has been running since 1987 and formed as a spin off of the Gay Games with sports include swimming, water polo, diving, synchronised swimming and open water swimming. This year IGLA 2019 will be in New York to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and next year it will be held in Melbourne. 500-600 competitors are expected to hit our shores for IGLA2020 held the week before Mardi Gras and are planning on hosting a float for competitors.

Come hit a wicket or two for Proud Cricket Day 2018

On Sunday 8 April 2018, Cricket Victoria and Proud2Play will host Proud Cricket Day at our new home at Junction Oval.

James Lollicato from Proud2Play and Rohan O’Neill from Cricket Victoria popped in MAD Wednesday to talk about coming along and joining in the day.

The day will see current Proud Cricket clubs, supporting organisations, community partners and members of the general public come together to celebrate the achievements we’ve made in ensuring that cricket remains inclusive of all communities, including the LGBTI+ community. There will be a range of activities for the kids on the day and a friendly and social round robin competition.
