Adam Bold from Points of Difference Touring and Events joined Rach and Dean for their final MAD Wednesday to talk about Gay Ski Week Australia, coming to Falls Creek in September.

With people concerned about the Covid Restrictions, Adam was happy to talk about how the event would move forward allowing people to hit the slopes and paint the mountain rainbow.

Their fertility specialists will explain the fertility treatment options available for LGBTIQ+ people, and answer any questions you may have in a space that understands the diverse needs of our communities, specifically queer cultural safety and TGD affirming language in an area that largely operates under a medical model.

We need to shine a light on LGBTI Domestic Violence with Ben Bjarnesen

Thursday 28th May is the first LGBTI Domestic Violence Awareness Day, and Rach and Dean spoke to LGBTI Domestic Violence advocate Ben Bjarnesen about why he advocated for this day, and why we need not stick our heads in the clouds when it comes to violence in our communities.

Recent studies have demonstrated that up to 62% of LGBTIQ+ people have experienced DV in their relationships, yet awareness of the issue and reporting rates are still incredibly low. The “Sorting it Out” report recently found that as few as 5.3% of victims were reporting domestic violence to Police.

DV can come in many forms, but we need to keep in the forefront of our minds that everyone deserves a life free from violence and abuse. Everyone needs support when asking for help, whether that be someone to talk to or helping to find the right support service they need.

No victim of DV should feel invisible.

We are here for you, we believe you, and the more we create a space for people to share their stories and experiences we shine a light on the problem. Stretching out a hand or a shoulder of support to those that need it.

Greens push for LGBTI protection in faith-based schools

Victorian Greens Members for Prahan Sam Hibbins joined Robbie and Dean on MAD Wednesday to discuss the Greens plan to re-introduce a bill that would protect LGBTI students and teachers at faith-based schools across the state from discrimination.

The bill would amend the state’s Equal Opportunity Act 2010 by removing current exemptions allowing faith-based schools to discriminate on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, lawful sexual activity, marital status, parental status or gender identity.

Now more than ever we need to stand up for equality.

Rainbow Family Hub takes of Melba Spiegletent for Midsumma

Dean headed down to The Melba Spiegletent for the first day of their Rainbow Family Hub as part of Midsumma and found out what it is all about.

The Hub will present five days of inclusive programming all designed to celebrate what makes our differences special. With free activities where you can make your own family flag, item of wearable art or ticketed shows from some of Melbourne’s best family-friendly performers.

Simon Taylor returns with plenty of laughs to the Melbourne Fringe Festival, but this time he has something extra in his arsenal… because he has written a children’s book!

Simon dropped by MAD Wednesday with Dean Arcuri and guest cohost Anna Piper Scott for a chat with lots of laughs that was a whole heap of fun.

His childrens book, Sally and the magical sneeze, is beautifully illustrated by A. D. Lester . It is a fabulously wild story that turns sickness on its head when Sally sneezes up all kinds of wacky creatures who want to have fun and games with her! Check it out here.

In a special Country Cousins on JOY, Damien Stevens-Todd dives into everything that’s coming for the inaugural Bendigo Pride Festival at the end of March.

A community initiated and run event that celebrates, explores and promotes diversity and inclusion within the Loddon Malle Region with particular focus on LGBTIQA+ communities and people, Bendigo Pride Festival starts March 29th and runs right through until the 29th April, holding community at its core and sending a strong and powerful message that no matter who you are, no matter where you are from, we all equally belong.

Celebrate regional pride in style at Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras

Holly, the organiser of Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras, and Miss Poppie (Cam from The Woods on JOY) joined Robbie and Dean on MAD Wednesday to tell us about the inaugural celebration of LGBTI Pride in Wagga Wagga.

Taking place down Wagga’s main strip, Baylis Street at 5pm on Saturday 9th March, Wagga Mardi Gras will then be followed by a free after party at Victory Memorial Gardens.

So sew on some sequins, try on a tutu and apply liberal amounts of fake tan and glitter, because this is a pride party like Wagga’s never seen before!
