We’re kicking off our new music this week with a new artist to our airwaves, Sydney-based out-and-proud singer-songwriter Greg Gould. Having originally come to our notice as runner-up on the 2013 series of Australia’s Got Talent, Greg signed with boutique label Reservoir Records, which saw him working on and releasing a couple of singles and also touring his high-energy live show in venues across the country. Now fully independent, his latest single is a fresh take on arguably one of the most iconic songs of the nineties, En Vogue’s ‘Don’t Let Go (Love)’. Produced by Sydney-based out-and-proud DJ-producer Dom de Sousa, the track combines Greg’s soaring soulful vocals with dancefloor beats that stay at boiling point from start to finish.

Another independent artist, Melbourne-based 20-year-old Rachel Costanzo, has been on our radar since we featured her single ‘Starlight’ in 2014. Her latest single, ‘Start Again’, is contemporary pop excellence that would sit well on any current pop radio playlist. We’re definitely on board.

LA-based Darwin-born Aussie singer-songwriter Vassy originally featured on JOY way back in the mid-2000s, when she was a fresh Triple J Unearthed artist finding her way. We’ve featured her a number of times since over the years. Her biggest hit to date is as the featured artist on the 2014 Australian top five worldwide smash hit ‘Bad’ from David Guetta and Showtek. Her latest single, ‘Nothing to Lose’, is a strong dance-pop offering we couldn’t say no to.

Since his 2014 hit, ‘Heroes We Could Be’ featuring Tove Lo, Swedish DJ-producer-musician Alesso has had five non-charting single releases. He’ll be hoping his latest offering brings a change of fortune. The featured artist on ‘Falling’ is uncredited to this point, but we’re reasonably certain that it’s actually once again the now very successful solo artist Tove Lo. Perhaps she’ll provide the edge needed to get that elusive chart position for Alesso.

American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars couldn’t really have asked for a better result for the lead single from his third studio album, with the title track, ’24K Magic’, peaking at #3 on the ARIA charts and achieving 2x platinum certification. The follow-up single, ‘That’s What I Like’, was added to pretty much every radio station in the country last week and is now racing up the charts. We thought we’d better join the party.

American post-punk pop-music legend Deborah Harry and her musical partner Chris Stein originally formed Blondie in 1974. After a 15-year break, the band re-formed in 1997. They have a new album due for release on 31 March. The lead single, ‘Fun’, is quintessential Blondie and we think you’re going to love it. Blondie are currently touring with Cyndi Lauper and they’ll both be in Melbourne in April!

And lastly, but no less excitedly, we also get to feature this week the first new pop release from Goldfrapp since their brilliant Head First album of 2010. Due for release on 31 March, Silver Eye promises a return to the powerful glam-rock-tinged electro-pop that we love from the out-and-proud Alison Goldfrapp and her musical partner, Will Gregory. ‘Anymore’ is reminiscent of their first hit in Australia, 2003s ‘Strict Machine’, but tougher and hardened around the edges. Serious love for this one here at JOY.

Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
