Australian pop favourites The Veronicas hit our airwaves with the third single from a yet-to-be-confirmed fourth studio album. The follow-up to the gold-certified ‘On Your Side’ and 2x platinum ‘In Your Blood’ is not quite the emotional roller-coaster of the duo’s 2014 smash hit ‘You Ruin Me’, but ‘The Only High’ will hit you in the hear. It kicks off our new music for this week.

Australian pop singer and TV actor Samantha Jade is still holding out for another hit as big as her post Australian X Factor 2012 3x platinum selling ‘What You’ve Done to Me’. With a recent move to the UK and working with new songwriters from Sweden, her latest single, ‘Circles on the Water’, is a significant departure from her earlier sound. We’ll be watching closely to see if the music-buying public supports the change.

Melbourne-based independent artist Ben Hazlewood has been making big inroads on the US market lately, particularly in the live performance space. He’s popped back home and is hitting the promotional trail for a single he originally released about six months ago. ‘Wanted’ is another excellent mid-tempo pop track, as we’ve come to expect from Ben.

LA-based Australian DJ-producer Tommy Trash has been putting out very successful, thumping bassline main-room club tracks for a few years now. However, his latest foray, ‘Dreamer’, for which he has teamed up with California native Mac Montgomery (aka DENM), is an exercise in considered musical restraint and a pretty dance-ready pop song.

American singer Halsey has been one to watch for a while, and she has had some major success already as the vocalist on The Chainsmokers’ massive hit ‘Closer’. As she is an out bisexual, we were very excited when her album, released this week, featured a duet with another artist who recently revealed her bisexuality – Laura Jauregai, one of the five members of the highly successful girl group Fifth Harmony. While not an official single, ‘Strangers’ is one we just couldn’t ignore.

English DJ-producer-songwriter Duke Dumont and English electronic production duo Gorgon City have teamed up, and have combined with NAATIONS, a duo made up of Australians Nicky Night Time (Nick Van She) and Nat Dunn. ‘Real Life’ is triumph of collaboration and deserves to be an international hit. We’re doing our part to make it happen.

Out-and-proud pin-up boy, touring lead singer for Queen and worldwide hit-maker Adam Lambert returns to our airwaves in an unexpected form. While the Dreamworks Animation film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is yet to open in Australia, its soundtrack has been released. Among a number of high-profile artists performing covers of very well-known songs, Adam can be found with a rendition of the 1968 Aretha Franklin classic ‘Think’. No one can accuse us of not injecting a bit of fun into the mix now and then!

Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the Six at Six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
