New music to weekdays (20 December 2017)
Hobart Curtis New Squeeze (I Won’t Leave) (CLUTCH)
JDR Only U (BERGSTEIN)
SZA x Calvin Harris The Weekend (Funk Wav Remix) (SME)
Matt Terry Sucker for You (John Gibbons Remix JOY Edit) (SME)

For the final time in 2017, check out the latest additions to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix.

Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Hobart Curtis may have already been featured on Triple J’s Unearthed, but he’s now reached lofty heights atop JOY’s Christmas tree. ‘New Squeeze (I Won’t Leave)’ is his third single and marks a slight change in sound. It’s all about a long-term, long-distance relationship. Who hasn’t been there? We think you’ll enjoy it.

You’d have to agree that this summer is going to be filled with Latin sounds, so we continue the trend with the newest from JDR. ‘Only U’ comes from Sydney-based duo Derrick Attwood and Joshua Paltoo, and is exactly the type of track you’ll be hearing blasting from topless cars cruising down the Esplanade. All we need is a troupe of hot Latino dancers and we’ll be set for the coming months.

You’d know SZA from her work with Maroon 5 in ‘What Lovers Do’. Back then we said she deserved to be in the spotlight of the mainstream, and thankfully she now is. Ahead of her show at FOMO Festival next month, she’s released ‘The Weekend’. Calvin Harris has done some work with it, and we think you’ll enjoy the result.

Matt Terry won UK X Factor last year after deciding that being a waiter (not in a cocktail bar) wasn’t for him. His winner’s single, When Christmas Comes Around, peaked at #3 on the UK chart. ‘Sucker for You’ is his first single in Australia, coming from his debut album Trouble. We’re a sucker for a good pop song, and John Gibbons‘ remix gives it that extra zing. Give it a listen – Matt will be break-breakin’ your heart right after that first chorus.

There may not be new releases for a couple of weeks, but keep JOY turned on over the break to hear all your favourites.
