Ready for a massive collection of new music to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix? Hold on.

Brit Uzo Emenike has been making music since he was 14 – you might know him better as MNEK. This out-and-proud singer-songwriter is soon to release his debut studio album. ‘Tongue’ is the lead single and goodness, it’s quite the tune. You might think you know what’s coming next, but it will certainly surprise you. The video is just as fiercely surprising. We think you’ll love it.

Nicole Millar made herself known on JOY thanks to her last release, Blindfolded. This Sydneysider has been to Sweden to do some songwriting and has come back with a corker of a new single. ‘Gimme a Break’ was inspired by those boyfriends who just keep messaging at all hours, wanting to know what you’re doing and where you are. Ditch that one-nighter and enjoy this bop instead.

This year’s Eurovision national finals are all done, but that won’t stop us from adding some of the tunes that won’t be going to Lisbon this year. Depi Evratesil is Armenia’s selection competition, and Armenian-Ukrainian singer Asmik Shiroyan was one of this year’s contestants. She’s had experience on reality singing shows, having been on The Voice of Ukraine in 2014. Sadly, her 2018 entry, ‘You and I’, only came 6th in the grand final, having been up against a variety of songs including one by an Armenian drag queen. We think Asmik should have won. Would you have enjoyed seeing this at Eurovision too?

Out-and-proud singer Rocco Bene had great success with his cover of Wendy Matthews’ hit The Day You Went Away last year. This Sydney lad is back with something deep and meaningful. ‘Have the Faith’ deals with what we do when confronted with change in our lives. We’ve taken the Ruffloaderz remix to keep you dancing during your workday.

Shiny records seem to follow Charlie Puth. How Long was certified platinum in Australia, and Attention got three platinum records. That’s on top of the multi-platinum successes of his debut album, Nine Track Mind. ‘Done for Me’ is the latest release from his forthcoming second album, Voicenotes, and features out-and-proud bi Californian singer Kehlani. She appeared on the scene in 2011 as part of teen pop group Poplyfe, who came fourth on that year’s America’s Got Talent. Kehlani’s vocals give this song an added punch, and we think another platinum record is coming for Charlie because of it.

Melbourne-based four-piece electropop band The Engagement released their latest single earlier this year – but with a shiny remix, it’s now perfect for JOY weekdays. ‘Home’ has been worked over by young Danish producer Vinze to deliver an uplifting reminder of how much we need a place to call our own. The track still features the tender vocals of Hayley Beatson and should get you smiling.

Gold Coast DJs James Todman and Brett Allen are Rave Radio, and they’ve had a busy year so far keeping partygoers from Australia to India happy. In the middle of everything, they have found time to drop a track that will keep the summer feeling going even as autumn hits. ‘Morning Light’ is a banger you’ll want to have up loud even as the grey clouds roll over Melbourne. It features MANBN‘s vocals, and we reckon you’ll get all the feels listening to this one.

Everyone’s been asking where Vera Blue‘s women’s anthem was last week. Don’t worry – it’s here now. ‘Lady Powers’ marks Vera’s march into the US, enlisting American hip-hop artist Kodie Shane to give the track some street cred. We hope these lady powers can help a top Aussie talent crack the US market.

We like to work on the principle of ‘Better late than never’, and we think you’ll appreciate that approach too with a couple of other additions this week. Out-and-proud bi German DJ and producer Felix Jaehn has teamed up with Marc E Bassy to deliver ‘Cool’. Although our mix doesn’t have the original’s Gucci Mane, we think it’ll still warm you up on a cold workday. Sydney-based trio Glades have been busy making new music, releasing ‘Do Right’ earlier this year.
