It might be another short work week, but there’s nothing small about the additions to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix this week.
Californian singer LAUV burst onto the music scene with his release of I Like Me Better last year. It got to #8 on the ARIA chart and was certified triple platinum. On the back of his sold-out Australian shows comes ‘Chasing Fire’, a song about relationships you just can’t let go of even though you know they’re done. We think you’ll be singing along.
We love Aussie group The Potbelleez at JOY and their follow-up to ‘Keep On Loving’ doesn’t disappoint. Ilan Kidron, Jonny Sonic and Dave Goode have produced another bop in ‘Go for Gold’, coincidentally just in time for the Commonwealth Games. Grab that person who gets you to your personal best and boogie the night away.
Four-member Kiwi band Drax Project have gone from busking on the streets of Wellington to opening for Lorde and Ed Sheeran in just a few short years. Woke Up Late is the breakout single for Shaan, Matt, Sam and Ben and it’s a cool combination of their jazz, pop and hip-hop roots. We reckon you’ll want to get this playing on a Sunday morning, especially if you’ve ended up somewhere far away from home.
If you’re back at work after the long Easter weekend, having a song that reminds you of 3am on the dance floor might help ease the pain. Melbourne-based gay artist Just Shy delivers the goods with his debut single, ‘I Am Here’. The touch of ’90s dance, alongside some cool guitar work, should send you back to the lasers and dark corners of the club on Easter Saturday.
