We’re rocking the month out thanks to these gems added to Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix.
The seatbelt light’s off and we’re ready to party with Kira Puru, who has just released her self-titled EP. Brace yourself for the cheekiness of the EP’s third single, ‘Fly’. The Melbourne-based queer singer-songwriter employs a sexy guitar riff to take you to first class, with soaring vocals to top it all off. We reckon you’ll be racking up the frequent flyer points with this one.
Jess Kent lands on JOY with her newest release, ‘Girl’. It’s the lead single from the British-born, Adelaide-raised singer-songwriter’s debut album, due next year. With Jess’s indie vocals and a fluttery rhythm, this ode to being a woman in today’s society is a bop that deserves to be heard.
Sunshine Coast youngster Jack Gray has been busy performing across the UK and Europe thanks to his 2017 hit ‘Red Rental Car’. The 19-year-old singer-songwriter has just dropped ‘My Hands’, festooned with guitar, drums and a funky bass line for your listening pleasure. Grab your mate’s hands and have a little boogie and singalong to this one.
Rita Ora‘s second studio album, Phoenix, is coming on 23 November. Until then, the bi British singer is teasing us with singles. Let You Love Me is the fourth single from the album and tells the story of self-sabotaging relationships. We won’t be running away from Rita anytime soon.
Seattle-based singer Brian Fennell is SYML and he’s been a busy man since his breakout single, ‘Where’s My Love’, went crazy across North America and Europe. Channelling the sound of big rock-pop groups like The Temper Trap and Nothing But Thieves, he’s just released ‘Clean Eyes’ and it’s sure to grab your attention. We think you’ll be rockin’ along, especially when the chorus gets stuck in your head.
Disco diva Sharon Redd was known for a heap of dance-floor classics, including Never Give You Up and Can You Handle It. In 1980, she released ‘Try My Love (On for Size)’ from her debut self-titled album. This banger has been given a 2018 update thanks to British duo The Shapeshifters and Londoner Teni Tinks. The nu-disco original version is a banger in its own right, but Western Australian producer Dr Packer has taken the disco to a whole new level. Try this one on for size!
