New music to weekdays (17 October 2018)

New music additions

DADBOD DADBOD (Paunchy Records / issamin)
Zak Love Left Behind (BOOSHU)
illstrtd Ain’t the One (BE RICH)
Robinson Medicine (SME)
lovelytheband broken (SME)

For many years, dadbods have been ignored. They get shunned, while toned and muscled male forms are celebrated as amazing specimens. It’s time for that to change, and Melbourne duo DADBOD are leading the charge. Recognising the brilliance of beach bellies, ‘DADBOD’ is a playful expression of the growth of estomacs written by band member D1 after he visited Bondi Beach with his family. Getting its first Australian radio play on JOY, the track features the vocals of Emma Diva and has a video that will entertain any daddy lover.

Just a couple of weeks ago, out-and-proud Zak Love premiered a new song on JOY. Now this local singer-songwriter is back with another banger, ‘Left Behind’, which tells the story of growth after leaving a relationship. Zak’s ready to empower you with this one.

The tunes from Melbourne continue with a brand-new release from illstrtd. The young producer cracked the big time with his last track Work Hard, featuring Ceeko, which has had over 150 000 streams on Spotify alone. Helping to write ‘Ain’t the One’ was JOY’s own out-and-proud Maddy Rowe, who also lent her voice to the single. We think you’ll get excited about this summer jam!

Robinson released her first single in 2017, but it wasn’t until the huge success of Nothing to Regret earlier this year that she hit the spotlight – it took a while for commercial radio to catch on to this up-and-coming singer, but they didn’t take long to jump on her new single. ‘Medicine’ is bound to be another hit for this New Zealander, and we think you’ll find yourself singing along.

Back in 2016, ex-Oh Honey singer Mitchy Collins met Jordan Greenwald and Sam Price at a West Hollywood club. They formed lovelytheband and released their debut single, ‘broken’, last year. It stayed at the top of the Billboard Alternative and Rock Airplay charts for weeks, and eventually peaked at #41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September. This bop has just hit Australian radio and it’s sure to do the same here. Whether or not you’re broken or lonely, the song is bound to put a smile on your face, with a chorus that is the ultimate earworm.
