A few Swedes get the party started this week, thanks to the conclusion of Sweden’s Eurovision selection spectacular, Melodifestivalen. Out-and-proud duo The Lovers of Valdaro were named after the two genderless skeletons found cuddling in the Italian town of Valdaro in 2007. Somebody Wants didn’t get through to the Melfest grand final, but it’s a banger deserving of a place in Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix. Lina Hedlund is best known for being one of the members of legendary group Alcazar, but she’s had her own share of solo love too. Coming 11th in the grand final, her Victorious is pure Swedish joy. Winning the Melfest final and heading off to Tel Aviv is London-born singer John Lundvik. This sprinter-turned-singer-songwriter was this year’s runaway winner, receiving top marks from the international juries and a huge number of public votes for Too Late for Love. It’s dramatic, uplifting and perfect for your commute home.

Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Nathan Smart lands in the mix with his newest release. The out-and-proud artist has released ‘Future’ and it provides a touch of the new with its synths, back beat and slower tempo. This lad has a promising future of his own.

Some Blonde is the stage name for Melburnian Alicia Weir, who has been making it big in clubs around the world. The DJ has teamed up with West Australian singer Reigan, who came fourth in 2014’s edition of The X Factor Australia, with ‘Set You Free’. It doesn’t come out until later this month, so the only place you’ll get to hear it now is right here on JOY.

Sweet But Psycho has been one of this year’s massive hits, and American singer Ava Max is hoping to land another. Celebrating diversity and inclusivity, So Am I is the sort of pop bop that we would expect from Ava Max and you’ll want to stand up for your differences with this song too.
