It’s been an emotional 18 months for Melbourne-based Ben Hazlewood, working through depression, being away from home and missing his now-husband. Now back from LA, the out-and-proud singer-songwriter has been delivering musical gems and his newest release is no different. ‘Throw Your Weight on Me’ is an anthemic ballad, built for those in Ben’s life who stood by his side while he fought through the darkest of days. We think it’ll give you goosebumps.
Another friend of JOY drops a new single to clap along to. Bonnie Anderson is known for her big hits in Raise the Bar and Blackout, which she released after winning Australia’s Got Talent in 2007 at the age of 12. She’s been a regular on the JOY playlist since, but with a new gig on Neighbours, the singer-turned-actor has found a new home in Erinsborough. Now signed to BMG Australia, Bonnie has released ‘Sorry’, with the track being performed on the soapie as part of her storyline.
Gabrielle Aplin is known more for her acoustic covers and ballads, but the British singer-songwriter has gone all-out pop with her newest. ‘Nothing Really Matters’ is a bop that puts Gabrielle squarely in JOY territory. The follow-up to ‘My Mistake’ comes from her forthcoming third album, due for release later this year. We’re looking forward to hearing what she’s got in store.
They’ve had major success with Drinkee and Best Friend, and now American duo Sofi Tukker deliver their JOY debut in ‘Fantasy’. Based in New York, Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern have created a joyous electronic dance delight that we think will put a smile on your face and get your feet moving. It’s come just in time, too – they’re playing in Melbourne while working the Groovin the Moo tour next month.
Brisbane duo Lachlan and Connor are Bonka and they’ve been taking clubs by storm. The DJ-producers have just released their second single, ‘Focus’, featuring Bianca, and it’s bound to find a place on your dance playlist. These lads are on fire, and their newest single keeps it burning.
